Dog Training: Teaching Obedience
Abusive Dog Training: It Is Not Necessary! The myth that puppies need to experience pain, physical discomfort or fear in order to learn persists widely today despite convincing evidence to the contrary. This often leads to ego ... Obedience dog training is taught in many ways and styles, but the most recommended and acceptable method is one that uses positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement relies mostly on the dog's natural wolf-like traits and abilities. Training your dog using positive reinforcement also takes into consideration the way wolves establish a natural pecking order inside a social group.
Dog training is most preferred while your dog is in the stage of puppy hood. Nevertheless, you should begin your dog training from the first day your dog arrives home. Because they are basically pack animals, they will instinctively look to a leader. It is very crucial at this stage that they recognize you as the leader of the pack. As part of your dog training exercise you can establish simple rules and boundaries for your dog to follow.
One simple dog training exercise is keeping him from a particular room or area. If he tries to enter that room, give the dog training command "no" with a firm voice. Soon, he will learn to abide by your demands because it is in their nature to obey their leader.
There are various obedience dog training activities that you can practice in your home. When carrying out these dog training activities, it is very important to remember that kindness and patience is vital in your part. Also, remember that all good behavior should be rewarded with praise and a treat. Never overdo your dog training, otherwise, your dog will get bored and will lose interest. It will be more difficult to train your dog in the future once he loses interest on the particular exercise.
Do not try an exercise that is considered too difficult to start with. Doing so will only confuse and upset your dog. If your dog is older, he may already be familiar with some of the dog training commands. Find out how much he already understands, making sure to continue reinforcing his successes with praise and treats.
On the other hand, he may have developed some bad habits or may have no idea what is required. If this is the case, you need to start dog training as you would with a new puppy.
With puppies as well as older dogs, you will soon establish a system of training that works for both you and your dog and one that both of you find enjoyable. Be patient, and soon you will reap the reward of having a friendly, obedient, and loving dog, not to mention the precious bond of friendship that will strengthen between you and your pet.
